Everton could be interested in signing Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck this summer, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The Toffees are set to lose some key players in attack at the end of this season, with loan signings such as Romelu Lukaku, Lacina Traore and Gerard Deulofeu set to leave and return to their parent clubs. With Nikica Jelavic also leaving for Hull City in January and summer signing Arouna Kone failing to impress before picking up a season-ending injury, Roberto Martinez will almost certainly be in the market for new strikers when the transfer window re-opens. Welbeck has not always been a regular in his career so far at Old Trafford and continues to divide critics, though he has done well to score 10 goals in all competitions this season. Still only 23, the England international is a player with plenty of potential, and Everton could benefit as United look likely to make some changes of their own upfront this summer, with big names such as Edinson Cavani being linked with the Red Devils.
This would likely leave no room for Welbeck in David Moyes’ plans, and Everton could be joined by Tottenham Hotspur if the forward is made available.
