Roberto Martinez is interested in Valencia full-back Juan Bernat as a possible replacement for Leighton Baines. Everton are confident of keeping hold of Baines but are preparing a list of possible candidates should the England left-back leave the club in the summer. Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United have been keeping close track of the 21-year-old Valencia player as they too look to strengthen that particular side of defence. Martinez holds the youngster in high regard and is well aware of the player’s excellent campaign. The Spanish manager feels his fellow countryman has all the characteristics to make it in the Premier League. Bernat is an attacking full-back, with great pace and good anticipation of play. Due to Valencia’s liquidity issues, the Spanish club will reluctantly have to listen to offers for any of their key players in the summer transfer window and a bid of around 12million should be enough to prize Bernat away from the Mestalla.
