[football] direct news understands that Valencia have joined Everton in the race to sign Pierre-Michel Lasogga. The German U21 international helped save Hamburg from relegation at the weekend to top off an impressive season during which he has scored 13 goals in 20 appearances. And, his consistency has seen the likes of Newcastle United, Borussia Dortmund and Everton show interest. The latter are extremely keen as they seek to replace Romelu Lukaku, who ended his loan spell and returned to Chelsea at the end of the season. But, [football] direct news understands that Spanish side Valencia are also keen as they seek to sign a recognised centre-forward in the shape of former Norwegian striker John Carew, who has never been replaced at the club. Lasogga began his career at Bayer Leverkusen, but he quickly moved to Hertha Berlin, before making a move to Hamburg last summer. He has made 11 appearances for the German U21 side, scoring four goals in the process.
