Chelsea’s 6-0 win over Arsenal today is up there with some classic performances from the Blues in the Premier League era. Jose Mourinho’s side came flying out of the blocks in today’s early kick-off, thrashing one of their title rivals in a fashion that will surely make them title favourites now, even with Manchester City and Liverpool also winning convincingly on the same day.
While it was one of the worst days of Arsenal’s history, it will certainly go down as one of many recent classics from the Stamford Bridge outfit, who have produced a number of fine victories of this calibre in the last few years. Particularly since the arrival of wealthy Russian owner Roman Abramovich, Chelsea have brought in some of the best players in the world, who have produced some sensational results to match. In their double-winning season of 2009/10, Chelsea’s fantastic attacking displays under then-manager Carlo Ancelotti saw the club break a Premier League record, as they won the title by scoring an incredible 103 goals.
Many of their best goal-scoring days are from that season, but there are some other memorable results, such as a 5-0 win over Manchester United back in 1999, as well as last season’s 8-0 drubbing of Aston Villa.
