Freddy Guarin is set to sign a new long-term contract with Inter Milan in the next few days, putting an end to any speculation regarding his future. Chelsea were pursuing the Colombian midfielder in the January transfer window but failed to offer the 15million requested by the Italians. Southampton were also rumoured to have been interested but no bid transpired from Mauricio Pochettino. Guarin was contemplating a move away from Inter but had his head turned by optimistic new owner Erick Thohir, who is looking to rebuild a strong squad for next season having already signed Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic.
Thohir had previously conceded that he would probably have to sell Guarin as big clubs were circling the talented midfielder. However, no satisfactory bid came in and his future is set to lie in Milan.
The deal is expected to be announced within the next few hours and Guarin will put pen-to-paper on a new contract. Guarin is the club’s joint top scorer along with Mauro Icardi with five goals. Watch Manchester United v Manchester City Tuesday night.
