Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has said that striker Diego Costa is favourite to win the Ballon d’Or this year after his incredible form helped them to maintain a La Liga and Champions League title campaign.
The Ballon d’Or has been largely dominated by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in recent years but Diego Costa’s form over the last season has seen the Brazilian born Spanish international force his way into that bracket. Costa, who is largely reported to be in line for a summer move to Premier League side Chelsea this summer has scored an impressive 26 goals in 31 La Liga games and his boss Diego Simeone believes he can win the much coveted title. Costa has room for improvement, he told told reporters at a press conference.
He is rebellious and I like that. Hopefully he does not stop growing. It depends on what he wants to do. Today, he is among the candidates for the Ballon d’Or. “The 25-year-old was barely known up until his return to Vicente Calderon stadium following a loan spell with Rayo Vallecano but his performances this season have guided the capital club to a Champions League semi-final and La Liga title challenge.
