Napoli manager Rafael Benitez has joined the race to sign FC Porto midfielder Fernando, who has been linked with a move to Manchester City and Chelsea in the past. The Neapolitan club have shown their intent in signing the Brazilian midfielder. The president of the club, Aurelio Laurentis, has held talks with Porto chairman Pinto Da Costa about the possibility of negotiating the transfer at the end of this season. Chelsea were rumoured to have made a late bid for Fernando in the January transfer window which was turned down by Porto, and instead signed Nemanja Matic from Benfica. Fernando is a key piece of the Portuguese side’s midfield and recently renewed his contract with Porto until 2017. However, Napoli are intent on making the 26-year old an addition to their squad in the next transfer window, according to A Bola. The Brazilian has made 138 appearances for Porto, winning 12 titles with the Portuguese giants since joining them back in 2007 from Vila Nova.
