Bayern Munich are keen to beat Arsenal and Manchester United to the signing of Santiago Arias, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The Colombian international, currently of Eredivisie giants PSV, has been in superb form this season, attracting interest from two of England’s biggest clubs, who are both looking for right-backs this summer.
United face some uncertainty over the future of Rafael da Silva, and have often used Chris Smalling out of position in that part of the pitch this season, and David Moyes is keen to sign a specialist right-sided player. Arsenal, meanwhile, look set to lose Bacary Sagna on a free transfer as he continues to stall on signing a new contract, though both teams may now miss out on Arias as he becomes a top target for Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola, according to a European football insider.
The Spanish tactician has moved the club’s usual first-choice right-back Philipp Lahm into midfield this season, and remains unconvinced by Rafinha as a regular starter, leaving him to ponder moves for new options. Arias looks to have the technical ability and drive going forward that should see him fit in nicely into Bayern’s style of play, and the 22-year-old will no doubt be tempted by a big move to the reigning European champions.
