Barcelona have rejected an offer of resignation from sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, according to Radio Catalunya. The former Barcelona keeper took over as sporting director in 2010 from Txiki Begiristain and has been influential in several deals involving the Catalan club. However, following the club’s ban from governing body Fifa, which has seen them banned from the next two transfer windows for breaching rules associated with the signing of under 18 players, Zubizarreta handed in his resignation. Catalunya Radio claim that the 52-year-old spoke with the club’s vice-president Jordi Mestre but was told he could not resign on Wednesday.Zubizarreta has been identified as one of those responsible for Fifa’s investigations by fans and media close to the club but he was told by both Mestre and president Josep Maria Bartomeu that they are fully supportive of him and his work at the club.
