Barcelona are considering a summer move for Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez, according to German news source Sport 1.
The Catalan giants are known to be in the market for new signings upfront for next season, with the club widely acknowledged to be lacking a traditional centre-forward to provide some variety from the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Alexis Sanchez.
The German international only joined Fiorentina from Bayern Munich last summer after dropping down in the pecking order at the Allianz Arena, though he had previously been regarded as among the most clinical strikers in the world. Injuries this season have meant Gomez has not really had the chance to get back to his best in Serie A, though it seems Barca remain fans of his and could make him one of their top targets for this summer’s transfer window.
The 28-year-old’s struggle for fitness has seen him miss out on a place in Germany’s squad for this summer’s World Cup, but he has previously scored 25 goals in 59 caps for his country.

Gomez also scored 113 goals in 174 appearances for Bayern, forming part of their treble-winning side of last season.
