The Catalan club are keen to sign a centre-back this summer with the imminent departure of captain Carles Puyol. A number of defenders have already been linked with the club with the name most often mentioned being that of David Luiz who has been on the club’s radar since last summer. Agger has also been tracked by Barcelona since 2012 and saw a 17million bid rejected by the Reds last year, yet interest in the Dane has been reignited in recent weeks. Meanwhile, the impressive season from 19-year-old Athletic Bilbao centre-back Aymeric Laporte has caught the attention of sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta. Barcelona fans were asked to vote by Catalan daily Sport who they preferred to see in the heart of their team’s defence next season; Luiz earned the lion’s share of the votes with 68 per cent, Laporte came second with 29 per cent while Agger received a mere three per cent.
