Barcelona could revive their interest in Mario Goetze this summer after learning that he is unhappy at Bayern Munich, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The Catalan giants were one of several top clubs linked with the German playmaker during his time at Borussia Dortmund, where he had established himself as one of the best young players in the world.
The La Liga champions could now be back in for him this summer, as they remain keen on revamping their struggling squad with some fresh attacking talent, with another Bundesliga star in Marco Reus believed to be high on their list of targets. Goetze has been in and out of the Bayern starting lineup this season, struggling for regular games due to the vast options available in Pep Guardiola’s squad, though he has still notched up an impressive 15 goals and nine assists in all competitions.
The 21-year-old would certainly fit in well into the playing style deployed at the Nou Camp, but recent reports suggest that they will face competition from Premier League giants Chelsea and Arsenal for his signature in the upcoming transfer window. It remains to be seen if Bayern will allow Goetze to leave after just one season at the club, as the youngster could still play a big part in the club’s future once he settles in better.
This would be another blow for last season’s treble winners, who are also looking likely to lose Toni Kroos at the end of the season.
