Defender Martin Montoya will officially sign his contract extension at Barcelona on Friday, ending any hope of a move to Liverpool or Arsenal. The young Spanish right-back agreed terms on a new contract at Barca over the weekend, but will officially sign the documents this coming Friday lunchtime in the offices of the club. Liverpool and Arsenal had been linked with the Spanish full-back for some time but Barcelona have warded off interest from abroad by extending the Spaniard’s contract. Montoya will sign a contract at the Nou Camp until the summer of 2018 to which Barca will insert a 16million release clause fee. Montoya was promoted to the Barca first team in 2012, having come through the academy at the Nou Camp before stepping into their reserve side which plays in Spain’s second tier. The 22-year old has played in all of Spain’s youth teams from U17 level up to U23, and has been called up to the full squad but is yet to make an appearance. He has featured for the Catalan national team three times.
