Andre Villas-Boas will hope to beat his old club Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiassio, [football] direct news understands. The 33-year-old is set to be a free agent this summer as his contract with Inter comes to an end, and it looks increasingly likely that he will end his ten-year association with the San Siro giants. Tottenham have been monitoring his situation, as have Turkish giants Galatasaray, though Villas-Boas is now seemingly keen to bring the Argentine veteran to his new club Zenit Saint Petersburg, according to a European football insider. The Portuguese coach only recently took over at Zenit from previous boss Luciano Spalletti, and is keen to put his own stamp on the squad this summer, with midfield signings a priority. AVB has already been linked with a raid on his old club for Brazilian midfielder Paulinho, though Cambiasso may now be more tempting due to his potential availability on a free transfer. Cambiasso has made over 400 appearances for Inter, winning five league titles and the 2009/10 Champions League during his time with the club.
