Atletico Madrid could make a summer bid for Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla if star youngster Koke leaves the club, it has emerged.
The Spanish giants could be set to lose one of their most important midfield players, with the 22-year-old playmaker attracting plenty of interest from big clubs after his displays this season.
It is thought that Barcelona could have first refusal on Koke, and they may be the favourites to land him, though the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea have also been linked with him in the past. Atletico were supposedly interested in signing Cazorla last summer, though he opted to stay in England, but they may now revive their interest in the former Malaga man as they eye a skillful attacker to replace the impact of Koke. Cazorla only signed for the Gunners last season, and has generally impressed in the Premier League, though it seems possible that he might be tempted by a return to his native Spain in the future.
There does seem to be some interest from Atletico, but nothing we’re particularly worried about at the moment, an Arsenal source told FootballDirectNews.com. “Santi’s under contract and he’s happy here, so unless there’s an amazing bid I wouldn’t expect him to leave this summer. “
