[football] direct news understands that Arsenal are no longer interested in making a summer move for Chelsea striker Demba Ba. The Senegalese striker played an important part in the latter part of Chelsea’s season with his goals in the Champions League helping Jose Mourinho’s side reach the semi-finals stage, before being beaten by Atletico Madrid. However, Mourinho’s desire to freshen up his attacking options has seen Ba, along with Fernando Torres – become surplus to requirements. And, a number of European clubs have since showed interest with the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus, Besiktas and Arsenal all keen. The latter had reportedly approached Ba earlier this month and held talks but his contract demands have proven too much for the Gunners, leaving Turkish club Besiktas to lead the race. It is now understood that Arsenal are now no longer interested and they will continue to search Europe for a much desired striker, whom boss Arsene Wenger hopes will provide competition and back-up for Olivier Giroud.
