Bayern Munich forward Mario Mandzukic would prefer a move to Real Madrid as speculation over his future gathers pace. The Croatian forward has been a key player in Bayern’s recent successes and helped the club seal a second consecutive Bundesliga title this season. However, the Bavarian giants are set to sign Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund which will see Mandzukic lose his “number nine” spot in Pep Guardiola’s side. Arsenal are ready to make a move for the 27-year-old, while Manchester United are also keeping tabs should they lose Robin van Persie this summer. However, both face a struggle to land the Croatian international as he has his heart set on a move to Real Madrid, according to Spanish source Mandzukic’s good friendship with Madrid midfielder and international colleague Luka Modric is said to be a deciding factor for the player. Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is keen to add a player of Mandzukic’s stature to his squad next season as he looks for a pivot for his attack-minded team to play off of.
