Arsenal have begun negotiations with Atletico Madrid star Diego Ribas, according to reports. The 29-year-olkd Brazilian midfielder will be out of contract in the summer and is expected to leave the Madrid club. A report in TMW suggest that Premier League Arsenal have already made contact with the player and are negotiating a move to England. Diego signed for Atletico in January on a short term deal and has played some part in the club’s strong end to the season. However, despite coach Diego Simeone keen on keeping him, the player’s wage demands are proving too rich for the La Liga leaders and they are prepared to let him leave. A return to Brazil with Santos is already an offer on the table, but the Gunners are trying to persuade the player to move to the Emirates Stadium next season. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is trying to add some more midfield steel to his talented squad and has been linked with several players.
