Flair players will be reluctant to join Chelsea this summer due to boss Jose Mourinho’s style of play, according to ex-Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson. The Gunners stalwart believes Mourinho is pushing his more creative operators to the point of exhaustion and nullifying their natural instinct to create chances in the final third of the pitch. Merson, who also earned 21 caps for England over a seven-year period, feels it is unfair for the Portugese to ask winger Eden Hazard to produce a disciplined defensive performance and compared the situation to his own playing days. He told Sky Sports News: “Certain players play in certain positions, (former Arsenal full-back) Lee Dixon couldn’t have done my job and vice-versa.“He has to be very careful about getting players in for next season because flair players will look at it and think ‘I am not going there to play left-back’.“Willian is literally knackered by the time he gets the ball.“If I was playing now and had that much flair, if Chelsea came in for me I would say ‘not really’.”Read more Arsenal transfer news.
