Arsenal may step up their interest in Marseille playmaker Mathieu Valbuena if Santi Cazorla leaves the club, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The Gunners have often struggled to keep their best players when richer clubs have come calling in the past, and Cazorla is now being linked as one of several targets in a proposed takeover bid at La Liga side Valencia.
The Spaniard could join alongside other big names such as Edinson Cavani, Shinji Kagawa and Alvaro Negredo, and would leave something of a gap in Arsenal’s midfield if he did leave.
This has seen Arsene Wenger turn an eye towards Valbuena’s situation at Marseille, with the French international looking likely to leave the club this summer as he seeks a new challenge, having been with them since 2006. During his time with Marseille, the 29-year-old has become widely established as one of the top attacking midfielders in Ligue 1, and has been a regular fixture for his national side.
His skillful and creative style would fit in well at Arsenal, though the likes of Liverpool and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with him.
