Atletico Madrid could look to bring former Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain back to La Liga this summer, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The Argentine forward only left the Bernabeu for Serie A side Napoli last summer, and has performed extremely well in Italy with 24 goals and 11 assists in all competitions in his first season with the club.
The 26-year-old has also attracted attention from Arsenal, who tried to sign him while he was still at Real, but Atletico could now look to snap him up as they eye a replacement for Chelsea target Diego Costa, who looks increasingly likely to leave the club. Other big names such as Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Chelsea youngster Romelu Lukaku have also been mentioned as possible replacements for Atletico’s top scorer, but Diego Simeone could now launch an ambitious move to bring Higuain back to the Spanish capital, a European football insider has claimed.
Higuain scored 122 goals for Atletico’s city rivals Real, and was unfortunate to find himself behind in the pecking order after his fine displays.

Although the transfer would not go down well with fans at the Bernabeu, Higuain may be tempted to move to the ever-improving Atletico, who defied all the odds to win La Liga this season, and who still have the Champions League final to look forward to this week.
