Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is planning a return to Real Madrid to sign Croatian midfielder Luka Modric with Oscar going the other way, according to reports in Spain.

Mourinho is a keen admirer of Modric and keen on bringing the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder back to the Premier League with Chelsea.

Although Madrid have stated they would not consider letting Modric leave unless there was a drastic decline in the relationship, Mourinho is set to test their resolve by offering Oscar in exchange. According to La Sexta, Chelsea are ready to offer the Brazilian attacking midfielder plus cash for Modric. Oscar has been interesting Paris Saint-Germain, although Mourinho doubts whether they would be able to afford the player as a result of Uefa’s Financial Fair Play directive.
However, it seems that Chelsea would be willing to let 22-year-old Oscar go if it meant signing Modric.

Modric has reinvented himself as a deep lying playmaker at Madrid and sits alongside Xabi Alonso at the Bernabeu to allow the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale to concentrate on attack. With Chelsea looking to overhaul their own forward line this summer, Modric is viewed as someone who can pull the strings from deep.
