Liverpool could re-ignite their interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan this summer, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The 25-year-old was a target for the Reds last summer whilst still at Ukranian side Shakhtar Donetsk, though he opted for a move to Dortmund at the time after the Bundesliga side had enjoyed a successful season and memorable run to the Champions League final.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s team have endured a difficult campaign this year, failing to truly challenge rivals Bayern Munich for the title, and dropping out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage after defeat to Real Madrid. Klopp himself has been linked with an exit from the club, with both Arsenal and Barcelona interested in his services, and this could lead Mkhitaryan to reconsider a move to Anfield, a club insider claims.
The Armenian international has performed well in Germany, contributing nine goals and nine assists to his side’s cause, and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers remains a fan of his.
The Merseyside giants have surprised many this season by challenging for the Premier League title, and Mkhitaryan may now view the move as something of a step up from struggling Dortmund.
