Tottenham Hotspur look set to join rivals Arsenal in the chase for Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The 24-year-old has been in fine form for Sporting this season, and has recently also been linked with a move to Liverpool as the summer transfer window approaches.
However, Tottenham are also in the market for new signings at the back, as they face the possible departures of key players such as Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul when the season comes to an end.
Tim Sherwood’s side have been poor defensively for much of the season anyway, and could do with some fresh blood in their back four, with Rojo looking like an outstanding prospect to come in and do a job immediately.

The Argentine, who can also play at left-back, has been at Sporting since 2012, and has won 20 full caps for his national team since making his debut back in 2011. Ajax defender Joel Veltman is also being linked as one of Spurs’ defensive targets, as he is thought to be a favourite of Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal, who is the leading candidate to replace Sherwood as manager at White Hart Lane next season.
