Manchester United have been reduced from as high as 9/1 at the weekend to 8/11 odds-on favourites to sign young Southampton and England full-back Luke Shaw. Shaw, despite only being 18 years of age, is a regular in the Southampton first-team and made his England debut at Wembley in the 1-0 win over Denmark earlier this month as he replaced Chelsea’s Ashley Cole.
The teenager is widely tipped to be included in Roy Hodgson’s squad for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil with Cole missing out. Shaw has made 28 league appearances in an impressive season for the Saints and his performances have not gone unnoticed, with the likes of Chelsea, Shaw’s boyhood club, and Man United linked with moves for the defender. On Thursday morning, according to Paddy Power, Man United are 8/11 odds-on favourites to be Shaw’s next club, while Stan James also price the Red Devils, who will reportedly spend around 200 million in the summer, at 4/6. As recently as Sunday, Man United were considered as outsiders to sign Shaw, with the current Premier League champions priced as high as 9/1 to be the teenager’s next club.
