Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to take a closer look at Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera, FootballDirectNews.com understands.

Whilst Steven Gerrard is only 33, it is natural for the Premier League side to look for a possible future replacement and it is understood that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is growing keen on Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera.
The Basque midfielder joined Athletic in 2011 from Real Zaragoza and has since become a key part of their side, helping them to a Europa League final in 2012.
His performances have since gained interest from the likes of Manchester United, who have been credited for a long period but [FDN] understands that Liverpool are watching developments closely.

Herrera plays in a similar role as Gerrard did before the English international moved to a more deeper role and it is similarities in tough tackling, leadership, assists and workrate that has impressed the Reds.
