Schalke are the latest side to show an interest in unsettled Manchester United playmaker Shinji Kagawa, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The 24-year-old looks likely to leave Old Trafford this summer after failing to impress in his two seasons at the club since signing from Borussia Dortmund, with a host of clubs around Europe thought to be keen on snapping him up.
The likes of Inter Milan and Galatasaray have been linked with the Japan international recently, while his old club Dortmund are also believed to be open to taking him back, but Schalke have now emerged as contenders for his signature.
The Bundesliga outfit are likely to lose star youngster Julian Draxler this summer, and will look to reinvest what should be a hefty transfer fee into bringing in new attacking midfield options.
Tottenham Hotspur misfit Lewis Holtby has also been linked with a move to Schalke, the team he left to sign for Spurs last season, and could complete part of a double Premier League swoop by the German side. A United source confirmed Schalke’s interest in Kagawa, saying: “He’s got a number of options for the summer and I think he’ll go. Schalke will be looking to replace Draxler and he remains highly regarded in the Bundesliga, so could be seen as a good replacement. “
