Barcelona could look to bring former Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao back to La Liga this summer, FootballDirectNews.com understands.
The Colombian international has established himself as one of the world’s most lethal finishers in recent seasons, and Barca now appear to have made him their top target as they look to sign a top class centre-forward for next season.
Manager Gerardo Martino is believed to be keen on moving away from the club’s recent approach of fielding ‘false-nines’ such as Lionel Messi, Alexis Sanchez, Neymar and Pedro Rodriguez, and Falcao fits the bill as a traditional penalty box poacher to add some variety to Barca’s front line.
The 28-year-old had a superb record of 70 goals in 91 appearances during his time in Spain with Atletico, and has netted 11 times for Monaco this season, though injuries have disrupted his time in Ligue 1. Falcao continues to be linked with moves to bigger clubs, with Monaco still a work in progress after only winning promotion to the French top flight last season, and with reports of friction with current manager Claudio Ranieri. A European football insider revealed that Falcao was on Barcelona’s list, and though he would no doubt be expensive, the club expect to raise funds for his transfer by selling a number of squad players in the summer, which would likely include the likes of Cristian Tello and Alex Song.
