Sunderland’s on-loan Capital One Cup hero Fabio Borini will be given the chance to prove his worth at Liverpool next season.
The Italian – signed by the Reds from Roma in 2012 – scored the Black Cats’ only goal in their 3-1 Wembley defeat to Manchester City on Sunday and has struck six times at senior level this season.
And his industry has been having a big impact on the thinking of Anfield chief Brendan Rodgers, who intends to give the star a chance to prove his worth in the 2014/15 campaign. FootballDirectNews.com understands the Northern Irishman believes the 22-year-old can offer something different to current strike pairing Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge and will not look to offload him in the summer. Borini found himself marginalised on Merseyside before moving to the Stadium of Light but has now proven his worth at Premier League level and could flourish in Rodgers’ dynamic attack next term.
The news will come as a disappointment to Black Cats boss Gus Poyet who would love to make the player’s move permanent. But an Anfield source told us exclsuively: “Brendan will be bringing Fabio back here. He’s been impressed with his attitude and ability.
