Palace: Schmeichel bid lined up
21st January 2014 8:56am GMT
Crystal Palace are ready to move for Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel if they do not sign Wayne Hennessey from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Palace looked to have captured Wales 'keeper Hennessey two weeks ago when the keeper refused to play at Gillingham.
But the move did not come off and Hennessey has had to stay put at Molineux.
Now Palace boss Tony Pulis will cast an eye over Schmeichel who is one of a number of players out of contract this summer.
But his interest could be scuppered by the fact that Leicester are top of the Championship and poised for promotion.
Leicester boss Nigel Pearson is desperate to keep all of his key players at the KP Stadium this month.
But Schmeichel is hot property and one of the best keepers in the Championship.
Pulis has lifted out of the bottom three since taking over from Ian Holloway.
But they are among a host of clubs who could still go down.
Schmeichel insists he is not thinking about a new deal at Leicester yet.
He said: "At the moment, I think it’d be a distraction if we started getting too wound up about all that.
“The most important thing for everyone who is out of contract is earning it.
“There’s no need at the moment to cloud what is going on.”
