Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to open talks with Ajax manager Frank de Boer over the vacant manager’s position at White Hart Lane, SportsDirect News understands.
The 43-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising young coaches in Europe at the moment, having guided Ajax to three consecutive league titles in the Eredivisie.
A legendary figure as a player, de Boer now looks set for big things in management, and may be tempted to try his luck in the Premier League after finding success in Holland. Spurs are thought to be considering a number of targets to replace Andre Villas-Boas, who was sacked earlier today, and it is understood that de Boer comes closest to fitting the kind of profile of head coach that the north London side hope to bring in.
The likes of Fabio Capello and Michael Laudrup are also among the leading candidates for the position, and Spurs may struggle to agree a deal with Ajax, as de Boer only just signed a new contract extension with the Amsterdam club in the summer. If the Dutchman does move to White Hart Lane, he would be reunited with one of his best players at Ajax, Christian Eriksen, who made the same move in the summer transfer window.
