Schalke sensation Julian Draxler has expressed his belief that England striker Wayne Rooney would be good enough to start in the German national team.

The 20-year-old, who is widely regarded as one of the best young players in Europe at the moment, is expected to feature against England at Wembley tonight, and has praised Rooney ahead of the game.

Draxler's comments come in contrast to those of his team-mate Andre Schurrle, who recently gave his opinion that Rooney wouldn't be ahead of Germany's other attacking options at present.

Asked about which England players could play for Germany, Draxler told BBC Sport: "For the starting XI, I think Wayne Rooney. I like him very much. Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard could play in every team in the world so why not for Germany?"

The talented attacking midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League several times, and added that he is tempted to play in England at some point in the future.

"I like English football," he said. "I like the Premier League of course - it's one of the best leagues in the world.

"You have big clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea - of course it's a big dream to play for one of them. I have my favourite team, but at the moment I'm at Schalke."
