Liverpool get Pastore boost
31st October 2013 3:06pm GMT
Liverpool have put been put on high alert after Javier Pastore's agent fuelled speculation surrounding the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder's future in France.
Since joining PSG from Serie B club Palermo for £33 million in 2011, Pastore has failed to live up to expectations.
Despite having been publicly backed by previous manager Carlo Ancelotti and his replacement Laurent Blanc, who remains in charge, PSG are reportedly considering cutting their losses on the Argentine.
Pastore's agent, Marcelo Simonian, quoted in French publication Le Parisien, refused to rule out the possibility of his client quitting the French capital in the January transfer window.
He said: “Football is made up of highs and lows. He [Pastore] has had some good moments here [at PSG]. But there is no place for nostalgia.
“We will see what happens over the coming months.”
Liverpool, along with Serie A club AC Milan, are believed to have expressed an interest in signing Pastore, should he become available.
A player of undoubted quality, Pastore at times appears to lack the mentality required to reach his full potential.
The 24-year-old has not played since late September and the 1-0 Ligue 1 victory away to Valenciennes, after struggling with injury in PSG's early season.
However, Pastore is available for the home league match against Lorient on Friday.
French champions PSG are joint top of the Ligue 1 table, level on points with AS Monaco.
