Transfer news: Cardiff ‘set for Huddlestone bid’
8th August 2013 3:23pm BST
Cardiff City are understood to be readying an official approach to Tottenham Hotspur for the signature of midfielder Tom Huddlestone after missing out on Toulouse’s Etienne Capoue.
Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay is keen to strengthen his midfield this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of staying in the Premier League next term.
The Welsh club were keen on Capoue and it is thought the newly-promoted side had a bid for the France international accepted last week.
However, the midfielder is now on the verge of joining Tottenham on a £8.6 million deal with the French club’s president confirming that a transfer fee between the two clubs has been agreed.
Capoue’s arrival at White Hart Lane will make it even more difficult for Huddlestone to earn regular playing time under manager Andre Villas-Boas with Sandro returning from injury and the arrival of fellow midfielder Paulinho at White Hart Lane earlier in the transfer window.
Mackay has been interested in Huddlestone all summer and SportsDirect News sources have now revealed the Cardiff boss is readying a concrete offer to Tottenham in order to bring the 26-year-old to Wales.
Queens Park Rangers midfielder Stephane Mbia is another player understood to be on Cardiff’s transfer radar this summer.
The Championship club completed the signing of midfielder Gary O’Neil on a one-year deal on Wednesday after the 30-year-old failed to agree a new contract with West Ham United.
