Chelsea and Man Utd news: Clubs in race for Zouma
25th June 2013 11:29am BST
Chelsea are expected to face a Premier League battle to secure the signature of Saint Etienne centre-back Kurt Zouma, after Manchester United entered the race to sign the highly-rated youngster.
Zouma, an 18-year old centre-back currently playing in Ligue 1 for Saint-Etienne, is one of the most highly-rated talents in the French game.
At the end of last season it was reported that Zouma's representatives were in negotiations with Queens Park Rangers over a possible move, but the player eventually turned down the offer to stay in France for another year.
SportsDirect News understands that decision was informed by the player learning of interest from then-European champions Chelsea.
The Premier League side were unwilling to take a gamble on the player last year but are now believed to be lining up a £10 million bid, after having been impressed by Zouma's form over the past season.
However, it appears that Chelsea's decision to delay may come back to haunt them, with Manchester United now expected to emerge as serious competitors for Zouma's signature.
David Moyes is understood be a fan of the French youngster and is considering a possible bid in order to bring some much needed support to United's ageing first-choice centre-back pairing of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
Having made his debut at the age of 16, Zouma has already made as many as 40 Ligue 1 appearances and played a crucial role in his club's French League Cup triumph last season.
