Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott is ready to snub interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray, managed by ex-Blues boss Roberto Mancini.

Reports emerging from Turkey suggest the Italian is keen to secure the services of the England international, either on a loan deal or a permanent transfer.

The pair worked together for the entirety of Mancini’s three-and-a-half year tenure, but their working relationship deteriorated in the final months and Lescott was regularly overlooked for a starting berth.

Chances have also been few and far between under current City chief Manuel Pellegrini, who succeeded Mancini in the summer.

Centre-half Lescott, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is keen to find regular first team football elsewhere in a bid to clinch a place in England’s World Cup squad, but Galatasaray is far down his priority list.

He would prefer to stay in England with a Premier League side, and is open-minded as to the nature of the deal, as long as his wage demands are met.

However, City would like to see him move abroad rather than join a rival. Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Newcastle United are all believed to be interested.

A source said: “Joleon fell down the pecking order under Mancini and he never really received an explanation. Mancini wasn’t the sort of manager who communicated with the players, especially the ones he didn’t see as part of his plans.

“It would be an awkward reunion and unless the issue is forced, Joleon won’t be in a hurry to move to Turkey. He would prefer to show what he can do on the Premier League stage.”
