Tottenham: West Ham eye Defoe return
2nd December 2013 7:24pm GMT
West Ham United could look to bring their former player Jermain Defoe back to the club as he nears an exit from Tottenham Hotspur.
The 31-year-old is widely tipped to sign for MLS side Toronto FC in the January transfer window, though SportsDirect News understands that West Ham could attempt to hijack the deal.
Hammers boss Sam Allardyce is known to be keen on signing a new striker this season as cover for the injured Andy Carroll, and was thought to have considered a move for Defoe during the summer as well.
Tottenham were initially reluctant to sell the England international, but now appear willing to allow him to leave as he seeks first-team football elsewhere, though it remains to be seen if he would consider a return to Upton Park.
Defoe has often been booed by the fans on his returns to the club with Spurs, after remaining unpopular for the manner of his exit in 2004.
